Effective Altruism Christchurch

EA Ōtautahi/Christchurch is a local meetup group unified by a common desire to make the world a better place.

We aim to support each other in applying the principles of effective altruism to our own lives. This looks different for everyone: some pursue EA-aligned study paths and careers, while others look to make an impact through their donations. We also love to share the ideas of effective altruism with others, for them to consider and apply as they choose.

We’re a relatively small group, and our events tend to be informal— you’re more likely to find us discussing EA over a hike or a shared meal than sitting down to a formal presentation. That said, we’re still passionate about effective altruism, and we’d love to hear what sort of events you’d like to attend! Send us an email with your suggestions.

Our members come from all walks of life, and range in age from early 20s to post-retirement. Everyone is welcome, and no prior knowledge of effective altruism is required to come along to one of our events. Feel free to just show up and learn as you go!
